Slogan
A true ocean-going sailboat capable of facing the highest challenges with maximum comfort
-
Description
Built very close to Salzburg (Austria), in Schöchl Yachtbau shipyard, the Sunbeam 53.
The construction of the yacht started at end of 2005, and it was delivered in March of 2007.
A true ocean-going sailboat capable of tackling the most demanding challenges with maximum comfort. It features a sleek and elegant central cockpit with top-quality finishes and joinery.
Everything on board is designed and built for maximum safety and ease of handling. Therefore, while up to seven people can embark on a very long voyage across the world's oceans, all onboard maneuvers can be performed with just two people.
Designed by Georg Nissen and build by Sunbeam Austria, this center cockpit cruising yacht has a lot to go for; good sail performance and sea keeping, comfortable, safe and build quality. With her length of almost 16 meters the interior space is more than enough for longer comfortable stays on board. Very well equipped (bow thruster, electric winches, heating, etc) and very easy to handle sails and rigging layout with electric winches.
Its 18 tons of displacement will allow it to reach around 9 knots under its 110 hp engine, with a fairly comfortable noise level inside. Under sail, the 133 m² of sail area propels the nearly 16-meter hull with ease and determination, offering excellent agility in turning and maneuvering at all times.

- We entered via a four-step teak staircase, immediately struck by the bright interior and the beauty of the woodwork. The galley, located to port and on a lower level, is conveniently laid out in a U-shape, providing everything needed to prepare delicious meals even when sailing with a strong heel. It features spacious countertops, two stainless steel sinks, a three-burner stove and oven, a large refrigerator, and a freezer. Nothing is lacking, as we would also find in the other areas of the boat.
- At the chart table, we find a retractable flat-screen display, a side bookcase, and panels housing the various digital instruments.
- Aft, the owner's cabin is spacious and features numerous windows. We access it from the passageway behind the chart table, passing a berth opposite the entrance to the engine room. Here, we can easily move around to access the engine, generator, water heaters, battery banks, and many other components of the boat's systems.
- Forward, there are two more cabins, one with two bunk beds and the other with a double bed, which share the second bathroom in the interior layout. In short, Sunbeam has created a very beautiful, functional, comfortable, safe sailboat of impeccable Austrian quality.

- The flat deck boasts a large teak-lined surface, and from the open bow balcony, with its teak entry step, to the central cockpit, you can easily pass along either side thanks to its maximum beam of 4.55 meters. The anchor locker is large and equipped with a powerful electric windlass capable of effortlessly moving a 30-kilo Bügel anchor. The controls are forward-facing and located in the cockpit, eliminating the need to go forward for anchoring maneuvers. Aft of the anchor locker is a large sail locker constructed with a watertight bulkhead for added safety in case of collisions. The entire cockpit is surrounded by high coamings, and at its center is the binnacle with a carbon fiber wheel and all the electronic instrumentation one could expect from a top-quality sailboat.
- Bow thruster, hydraulic power unit for the backsta, automatic retractable hawsepipe, large lockers and chests in many places on the boat, table with folding wings and bottle rack in the cockpit, many details and ideas that show the ingenuity and quality with which this sailboat has been designed and built.
